IMPACT
A Newsletter for parents and friends of DCHS
November 2009
Web Site Up and Running
The school’s expanded, revised and revamped web site is up and running. Information found on the web site includes the school calendar, end of grading periods, staff telephone extensions, board of trustee meeting dates and meeting minutes, the student handbook, and the academic and attendance honor rolls. The address is www.dohnschool.org.
2nd Quarter School Fees Statements Mailed
Statements covering school fees owed the school were mailed out last week. Unpaid fees from previous years are also included. Parents are reminded that fees must be paid before the school will process school records, such as year-end report cards, official transcript of grades, or diplomas.
Parent Advisory Council to be Started
The school is going to start a parent advisory council. The purpose of the council is to let parents and legal guardians have an opportunity to discuss issues facing the school, and to give the school their ideas as to how we can make DCHS a better school. If you are interested is serving on the council, or if you want more information, please call Principal Piet Elmendorf at 261-6100, extension 1001.
First Quarter Report Cards Mailed Last Week
Report cards were mailed last week. Of the 634 grades issued, 12% were A grades, 20% B grades, and 20% C grades, for a total percent of 52%. The students who earned these grades should be congratulated. (See the Academic Honor Roll on our web site and in this newsletter.) Unfortunately, 48% of the grades given were below average.
There is no student enrolled in this school who cannot earn at least a C grade - as long as they attend school on a regular basis, work in their classes, and do the work their teachers’ assign. Teachers are available both before and after school to help students who are having difficulty.
Parents, please help the school by: (1) not allowing your student to miss school unless he/she is seriously ill; (2) stressing the importance of your
son or daughter earning a high school diploma; and (3) refusing to allow your student to leave school early unless absolutely necessary - most appointments can be made after school hours and a headache might not be serious enough to allow a student to leave school early.
If you want help in improving your child’s attendance, please call Mr. Davenport, assistant principal, at 261-6100, ext. 1002 for additional information and some suggestions on how to improve your child’s school attendance.
