Acceptable Use Policy
Computer, Technology, Network, and Internet Guidelines
 
Computer, other technology, network, and internet access are available to Dohn Community High School Students for educational purposes only. Any misuse or abuse of this access before, during, or after school will result in appropriate disciplinary action.
 
Dohn Community High School has implemented steps to prevent student access to inappropriate information and material. However, the possibility of unintended access to non-educational material continues to exist. It is impossible for school staff to guarantee that individual students – either accidentally or intentionally – will not gain access to undesirable information. Students are, therefore, expected to exercise sound judgment and to abide by all school and classroom policies and procedures when using/accessing computers, technology, networks, and /or the internet in school.
 
The following actions are prohibited:
·        Displaying, using, sending, printing, or saying obscene language and/or commercial, personal, or offensive messages or pictures.
·        Harassing, insulting, or attacking others.
·        Damaging or removing from the school computers, and/or any component of a computer, such as speakers, computer mice, or head phones.
·        Damaging computer systems, or computer networks.
·        Violating copyright laws
·        Using passwords or trespassing in folders, documents or files of others.
·        Intentionally wasting resources, printing personal work, or employing the network for commercial purposes.
·        Accessing inappropriate, non-educational sites.
·        Revealing the personal address or phone numbers of others.
·        Engaging in illegal activities via the internet.
·        Posting chain letters or engaging in “spamming.”
·        Engaging in sexual harassment.
·        Plagiarizing.
·        Purchasing goods or services via the internet
·        Posting personal messages on bulletin boards or “list servers.”
·        Altering system software.
 
Any violation of school and/or classroom policy will result in disciplinary action, and when advisable, notification of the appropriate law enforcement agency.
 
No file, document, or e-mail message is private. Network storage areas will be treated like school lockers and may be searched by school personnel at any time. Network administrators

and school personnel may review files and communications to maintain system integrity and to ensure student responsibility.
 
In order for any student to gain access privileges, this document must be read and signed by both the student and his/her parent or guardian. The document must be returned to the designated school employee before the student will be allowed to use a computer or given access to the school’s computer system.

Our signatures indicate that we have read and that we understand all guidelines and conditions governing student access to computers, other technology, networks and the internet at Dohn Community High School; and that we fully understand the consequences for any violation of this policy.
 
By signing this agreement, the student and his/her parents/guardian agree to reimburse the school for any cost due to the student’s use, abuse, damage or removal from school property, of school owned computers and/or computer components. This includes, but isn’t limited to, any cost incurred through the purchase of goods and/or services
